Kitchen Electrical Installation

Professional advice, careful workmanship and straightforward communication for homeowners planning electrical improvements or repairs.

A new kitchen is one of the biggest investments you can make in your home, and getting the electrics right is essential. From additional sockets and under-cabinet lighting to dedicated cooker circuits and extractor fans, SM Grant Electrician provides a complete kitchen electrical installation service across Dunoon.

All work is fully certified, compliant with BS 7671:2018 (18th Edition Wiring Regulations).

Why You Need a Qualified Electrician for Your Kitchen

Kitchen electrical work is classed as notifiable under the Building Regulations. This means it must be carried out by a properly qualified electrician who can self‑certify the work and provide the correct documentation. Using someone unqualified can leave you with work that isn’t signed off, potential issues when selling your home, and avoidable safety risks.

SM Grant Electrician is fully registered to certify all electrical work and handle the Building Control notification process on your behalf

Planning Your Kitchen Electrics

The best time to plan your kitchen electrics is before the kitchen is fitted. We recommend booking an electrical survey at the planning stage so that all socket positions, lighting layouts and appliance circuits are agreed in advance. This avoids costly changes once units and worktops are in place.

We work alongside kitchen fitters, builders and architects to ensure the electrical first fix is completed at the right stage of the project, with a clean second fix once the kitchen is installed.

First Fix & Second Fix Explained

First Fix

The first fix takes place before plastering and involves running all the cables to their correct positions — socket drops, lighting circuits, cooker feeds and appliance connections. All cables are concealed within the wall at this stage.

Second Fix

The second fix takes place once the kitchen is installed and decorated. This involves fitting all the sockets, switches, light fittings and connection units, and connecting all appliances. Final testing is carried out at this stage before certification is issued.

Kitchen Rewiring

Older kitchens often have insufficient or outdated wiring that cannot safely support the demands of a modern kitchen. In some cases, a partial rewire of the kitchen circuits is required before a new kitchen can be installed. We will advise you honestly during your survey if this is necessary and provide a clear quote before any work begins.
